Postal Service for Coastal Bend to resume Monday, Sept. 15

CORPUS CHRISTI and VICTORIA, TX — U.S. Postal Service employees in facilities along the Texas Gulf Coast 779, 783 and 784 ZIP code areas will be working this weekend behind the scenes, around-the-clock to process mail for Monday delivery, and to restore postal facilities and equipment damaged by Hurricane Ike.

All Post Offices in the 779, 783 and 784 ZIP code areas expect to return to normal delivery and retail operations on Monday, Sept. 15. According to Manny Arguello, District Manager for the Rio Grande District, “All postal facilities, including those closed during the storm, will reopen Monday once the safety of our customers and employees, and security of facilities and the mail has been ensured.”

In a few locations where roads are impassable or unsafe for travel following the storm, mail delivery services may be temporarily curtailed until normal conditions are restored. Those few customers who are unable to receive mail delivery may pick up their mail at their local delivery Post Office.

Postal Service employees in the 779, 783, and 784 ZIP Code areas are being advised to return to their normal work schedules. Employees should call the USPS National Emergency Notification Hotline if needed to clarify work reporting times for their specific area. The toll-free USPS National Emergency Notification Hotline for U.S. Postal Service employees is: 1-888-363-7462.

Customers can call the Postal Service's toll-free number 800-ASK-USPS (800-275-8777) or the TTY number 877-TTY-2HLP (877-889-2457) for help with any postal questions they may have.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation, 146 million homes and businesses, six days a week. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
