Post Offices complying with Evacuation Orders

Houston, TX — Postal employees are working to comply with all mandatory evacuation orders issued by county and local officials throughout the Houston District (ZIP Code areas 770 – 778) today, and will temporarily suspend operations within these facilities as soon as possible after evacuations are issued.

Customer service operations in any area covered by a mandatory evacuation order will be suspended, including mail processing, mail delivery, scheduled collection of mail from mailboxes, bulk mail acceptance, Post Office Box service and retail Post Office lobby services. Drop shipment appointments would also be suspended at closed facilities.

Postal facilities located within areas under mandatory evacuation orders include the following:

Harris County
Houston: 77058 (Nassau Bay Station), Albert Thomas Station (77059)
Pasadena: Main Post Office, (77501); Bob Harris Station (77506)
Baytown: Station A (77520)
Friendswood (77546)
Webster (77598)

Brazoria County
All Post Offices, including Alvin (77511), Brazoria (77422), Freeport (77541), and Pearland (77581)

Chambers County
All Post Offices, including Baytown (77521) and Mont Belvieu (77580)

Matagorda County
All Post Offices, including Bay City (77414)

Galveston County
Galveston (77550), Baycliff (77518)

Jefferson County
All Post Offices, including Beaumont (77704) and Port Arthur (77640)

Orange County
All Post Offices, including Orange (77630)

Customers outside of mandatory evacuation areas are advised to deposit outgoing mail today to ensure timely processing of mail destined for delivery outside the local area. Additional service operations in the path of the hurricane may be curtailed in the event of unsafe conditions such as high winds, flooding, or impassable roads.

Employees at locations along the gulf coast area are continuing to work today to secure the mail, postal facilities and equipment in advance of the arrival of Hurricane Ike. Facilities along the coast are being boarded up, and portable electrical generators, equipment and supplies are being staged for potential use in effected areas.

Postal Service employees in the area are being advised to contact the USPS National Emergency Notification Hotline daily. The toll-free USPS National Emergency Notification Hotline for U.S. Postal Service employees is: 1-888-363-7462.

Additional information regarding postal operations within specific ZIP Code areas will be issued by the U.S. Postal Service as necessary.
