Postal Service prepares for Dolly

As the possibility of Hurricane Dolly confronts the coastal area, the U. S. Postal Service is preparing for the possibility of initiating emergency procedures.

Local postal officials are reviewing emergency contingency plans in order to protect the safety of our employees and customers.  We are also reviewing our plans in order to continue to provide service to our customers as efficiently as possible depending on the severity of any damages.

Some offices may close lobbies as the hurricane approaches.  If roads become impassable or it is unsafe for travel, delivery services may not be available, and collection of mail from mailboxes may be suspended.  The situation will be reviewed on a daily basis, and normal service will be resumed as soon as safely possible.  We regret any inconvenience to our customers..

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
