Postal vehicle involved in an accident

Resulting fire destroys some and damages other mail

San Antonio, TX — A postal vehicle carrying mail to the San Antonio and South Texas areas was involved in an accident which resulted in a fire on Monday. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries.

All mail which was not completely destroyed has been recovered and transported to the San Antonio Processing and Distribution Facility to be re-processed. We regret to inform our customers that some mail was burned completely and therefore notification to the sender or addressee is not possible. Mail containing a legible address or return address will be re-processed and delivered as soon as possible.

We regret the inconvenience to our customers and are working to process this mail as soon as possible. Customer questions or concerns may be addressed to the Consumer Affairs Office at 210-368-8498, between the hours of 08:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Our customers are reminded; unfortunately, we will not be able to verify if a particular or individual piece of mail was involved in the accident.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
