WHAT:
On July 15, 2008, Public Law 110-265, sponsored by Congressman Chet Edwards, was approved designating the building located at 1190 Lorena Road in Lorena, TX, as the “Marine Gunnery Sergeant John D Fry Post Office Building”.

Friday, March 27, 2009, ceremony beginning at 9:00 a.m.

BACKGROUND:
John David Fry was born in Lorena, Texas in 1977. He joined the Marines in 1995 and became an explosive ordinance disposal technician (EOD). As an EOD, he was deployed to Iraq in September of 2005 with the 8th Engineer Support Battalion, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, II Marine Expeditionary Force out of Camp Lejeune, NC. Seven short days before this 28-year-old marine with a wife and young children was to be sent back home; he volunteered to defuse one more explosive device, this time in Al Anbar province. Gunnery Sgt. John D. Fry, 28, of Lorena, Texas, died March 8, 2006. Sergeant Fry earned the Purple Heart and many other decorations for his outstanding military service.

The U.S. Postal Service values its role as a community leader, and in recognition of Sergeant Fry, will host a ceremony to officially dedicate the current Lorena Post Office as the “Marine Gunnery Sergeant John D Fry Post Office Building”.
