Oakland Post Office to offer evening hours Passport Fair

The Oakland Post Office will hold a “Passport Fair” on Tuesday, July 22, from 5 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.  The event is part of an effort to make it easy and convenient for customers to apply for passports for travel outside the United States. The Passport Fair will take place in the Post Office lobby.

“We are encouraging everyone that needs or wants a Passport to go to www.usps.com/passport  and print a passport application, and then bring their appropriate documents to the Oakland Post Office on Tuesday, July 22,” said Oakland Postmaster John Whitaker.  “We will also have the passport applications available in the lobby.”

To apply for a passport, you’ll need to bring to the Post Office proof of citizenship, a Certified Birth Certificate with an Official Seal or a Naturalization Certificate or your most recent passport. You also will need one form of photo identification: a current Driver’s License or a State Identification Card. You will also need two identical 2” x 2” color passport photographs.  Photo services are available at the Oakland Post Office for $15.00.

The Dept. of State advises that routine processing time for passports is approximately six weeks. Customers can request Expedited service, for additional fees, at the time of application.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
