Tax Return Mailing Information
With the deadline for filing income tax returns rapidly approaching, the U.S. Postal Service is bracing itself for the annual onslaught of last minute tax filers.
As a convenience for tax filers, drive through mail drop sites will be located outside the General Mail Facility, 1237 E. Weisgarber Road, from 4 PM to midnight on Tuesday, April 15th. However our retail operation will operate on its normal schedule and close at 6PM.
Postal customers can easily avoid a special trip by mailing their returns or extension requests early in the day at any of the station or branch post offices located in the greater Knoxville area.
Some additional mailing tips:
- If you are not using IRS provided envelopes please use typewritten, computer generated labels, or print legibly when addressing your envelope. Check your tax booklet to make sure you address your return to the proper IRS office.
- Be certain to weigh your return or extension and calculate the proper postage. This is especially true if you are filing extra forms or schedules. Remember tax agencies will not pay postage due, so short paid tax filings must be returned to you for additional postage.
- Make certain bulky envelopes are securely sealed.
- Don’t wait until the last minute to mail your forms. Mail it early to ensure that you are able to find the forms your return requires.
