Postal Service to receive OSHA Award

Dalton area postal employees will be recognized on Thursday, Sept. 27, with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) Star Award at a special flag-raising ceremony held at the Main Post Office, located at 100 S. Thornton Ave.

Officials of the Postal Service’s Tennessee District will be joined by an official of OSHA, who will present the VPP Star Worksite flag and a certificate acknowledging the accomplishments of the Post Office’s employees in maintaining a safe worksite. Both the Main Post Office and East Side Station earned the prestigious award and they were the first office to earn the designation within the Postal Service’s Tennessee District, which covers the state of Tennessee and the North Georgia (307 ZIP Code) area.

To achieve Star status, a team of management, employee and union personnel work together to exceed OSHA’s voluntary safety and health standards and pass a rigorous OSHA onsite evaluation.

Dalton Postmaster Sherry Hill credits her employees for the program’s success.

“Attaining VPP status requires the buy-in and involvement from every Dalton employee,” said Hill, “and this is truly something that we earned together.”

“I’m proud to say that Dalton postal employees are committed to a safe working environment,” Hill added.
