Hartsville Post Office Celebrates Bicentennial
8:30 a.m. until Noon. on Saturday, September 15
The citizens of Hartsville and the surrounding area are invited to join postal employees on Saturday, September 15, 2007 for a celebration of the 200th anniversary of the establishment of the city’s first Post Office.
The celebration begins at 8:30 a.m. and will last until noon. The official ceremony will be highlighted by State Representative Stratton Bone’s presentation of a proclamation from the Tennessee State Legislature.
A special souvenir cachet featuring the art of local resident John Oliver will be offered for sale during the event along with a special “Bicentennial Station” pictorial postmark.
The first Post Office in Hartsville was established on January 20, 1807 with Andrew Allison serving as the first Postmaster. Current Postmaster Joane Perdue said she and the employees in Hartsville wanted to make the celebration something special for the whole community.
“We understand that our customers depend on us today, just as they have for 200 years,” said Perdue. “We appreciate their trust and want to express our thanks to them. We’re proud to work for the Postal Service and we know the citizens of Hartsville are proud of their Post Office.”
