Knit One, Mail Too!

Knitter’s Magazine and Postal Service to Host Event Great photo and video opportunities

Cancellation stamp

The Sioux Falls Post Office and XRX, Inc., publisher of Knitter’s Magazine, will join forces to host “Knit One, Mail Too!,” an event where local knitters will put their skills and works on display.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 1, noon-2 p.m. at the Meadows Postal Store, 2501 S. Louise Ave. in Sioux Falls. Knitters are encouraged to bring their needles, yarn and their latest creations. If you have a hat, sweater or mittens that need to be mailed for the holidays, so much the better. Postal representatives will be on hand to help knitters prepare and mail their packages. With flat-rate packaging, it doesn’t matter how much the article weighs, because “one size fits all”.

This event celebrates the issuance of the Holiday Knits commemorative stamps for the 2007 holiday season (below). Inspired by traditional Norwegian sweaters and knitted Christmas stockings, the four stamps depict classic wintertime imagery and the appearance is best described as cozy, according to illustrator Nancy Stahl, who designed the stamps.

Attendees can obtain a collectible special pictorial cancellation of the stamps designed just for this event (see above). There will be door prizes, free patterns, stitch demos and plenty of fun for seasoned knitters and non-knitters alike.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation, 146 million homes and businesses, six days a week. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
