Knife River Indian Villages Offers Special Commemorative Postmark
35th Birthday Celebration is Scheduled for October 26

On Monday, Oct. 26, Knife River Indian Villages National Historical Site will celebrate its 35th birthday. Among the highlights will be a Special Commemorative Postmark marking the event.
Stanton, ND Postmaster Jodene Brown will be at the park from 1-3 p.m. to postmark cards and letters affixed with proper postage. The postmark design was created by seasonal ranger Ella Mathisen. “Pictorial Postmarks are offered by the Postal Service as a way to recognize significant events in communities throughout our nation,” Brown said. “They make great, inexpensive souvenirs and are valued collectibles.”
The public is invited to visit the park that day and view the 35 years of history in photos. Refreshments will be served.
Knife River Indian Villages National Historical Site was created on Oct. 26, 1974. The park was established to preserve, protect and interpret the culture and agricultural lifestyles of the northern Great Plains Indians and to conduct archeological research to further understanding of the culture. The park contains some of the best-preserved remains of Mandan and Hidatsa earth lodge village sites.
This special postmark is a must-have. Can’t make it to the park on Oct. 26? The postmark is also available for 30 days after by mail. To request by mail, affix First-Class postage to an envelope or postcard of your choice, using any stamps that were issued before Oct. 26. Place in a larger envelope (along with a large self-addressed stamped envelope for the return trip) and send to:
