Mail in blue collection boxes in ZIPs 290-6 will be collected and processed on the Columbus Day holiday

Fall catalog season makes Columbus Day a busy mailing holiday

As usual on the Columbus Day holiday, October 13, 2008, Post Offices will be closed and delivery will be suspended.  But because of the large amounts of mail that move through the system during the fall mailing season, mail deposited in blue collection boxes on street corners and at Post Offices in the Greater South Carolina District, ZIP codes 290-6, will be collected and processed.  On Tuesday, October 14, 2008, early sweeps will be made of mail deposited at Post Offices in ZIPs 290-6.

“This Monday holiday is usually taken only by federal employees, so most of the businesses are working and generating mail,” said District Manager, Nicholas Rinaldi, “collecting and advancing the mail will help us avoid a day-after-the-holiday deluge.”

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
