Two Johns Island Rural Carriers help elderly residents in need

Within one day of each other, Johns Island Rural Carriers Joel Minor and Sharon Miller helped two elderly residents find their way home.

On May 19th, Rural Carrier Joel Minor was asked directions by a couple on bicycles who were trying to help a woman in a car who could not find her way home.  The woman also had no identification or information about her address, but she remembered her name and gave a description of her home.  Using a phonebook he keeps for reference, Minor located the address and the couple on bicycles escorted her home.  “When I saw the scared look on her face, I wanted to help if I could,” said Minor.  “I’ve had a similar experience with a family member, so I understood.”  (Cell no. for Joel: 843-860-5377)

On May 20th, Rural Carrier Sharon Miller noticed and elderly man walking the same street several times.  He asked her if she could help him and showed her a piece of paper with his address on it.  After it became clear to her that he was not able to follow directions or find his way, she escorted him to the address.  “I was very concerned that he find his way to his family,” said Miller.  “When I dropped him off at his home, he gave me a huge smile and a ‘thumbs up’ as a thank you.”  (Cell no. for Sharon: 843-568-7786)
