Clemson Tiger Paw Postmark available on Nov. 9th

Special Cancellation to commemorate Bicentennial of Thomas Green Clemson's birth

On Friday, November 9th, the Clemson Post Office will offer a special Clemson Tiger Paw commemorative postmark to the public. The unique cancellation is being issued as a part of celebration events to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of Thomas Green Clemson (b. July 1, 1807), founder of the school. Clemson's estate bequeathed over 800 acres of land in 1888 for the founding of Clemson University, which opened in 1893.

The postmark is free, but must be applied to items bearing First-Class postage. It will be available to collectors at the post office on Friday, or through the mail for 30 days following the date of issue. "I'm very proud to help Clemson University celebrate this historic event," said Postmaster Eddie Floyd, "this is the first time ever the Clemson Tiger Paw has been featured on a postmark."

To order by mail, write to: Clemson Postmark Station, Attn: Postmaster, 519 College Av. Clemson, SC 29631-9998. Enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope for return. By-mail requests must be postmarked by December 9, 2007. (Artwork pictured below)
