N. Myrtle Beach Native Began His Career as a Rural Carrier in His Hometown
Effective June 20, 2009, Bruce G. Fowler has been selected as the 16th Postmaster of Myrtle Beach. Fowler, who was formerly Post Office Operations Manager for the 141 Post Offices in ZIPs 294-5, has been serving as Officer-in-Charge in the position since April, 2008. He accepted the job on June 3.
The Myrtle Beach Post Office, established in 1901, currently has 172 employees at 5 stations and branches, with 128 routes that serve 72,467 possible deliveries in Horry County.
Fowler is a native of North Myrtle Beach, and began his career 35 years ago as a substitute Rural Carrier in his home town.
After becoming a Customer Service Supervisor in 1994, he was promoted to Area Quality Specialist in 2000. Fowler helped Postal Headquarters write the work methods for the then-new AFSM-100 flat sorting machine when they were deployed to the field in 2001. In 2002, he became Post Office Operations Manager.
Bruce has a degree in music from Furman University and has enjoyed performing as Director of the North Myrtle Beach Community Chorus.
“After serving in a Postal career that has taken me to virtually every large town in South Carolina, I am very pleased to be able to come home as Postmaster in my home town.” said Fowler. “During these difficult times, it’s especially important to have a strong connection with the customers we serve. I look forward to providing the best and safest possible work environment for our employees, and the best possible service for the residents of Myrtle Beach.”
Fowler is married to Lynda, who is an office assistant for a North Myrtle Beach realty company. They have two children, Angie, a doctor of physical therapy, and Gabe, a property manager—both of whom are married. Bruce and Lynda have 3 grandchildren.
