Edmond Post Offices to receive OSHA Award
OKLAHOMA CITY OK — Edmond postal employees will be honored on Thursday, November 15, 2007 with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) Star Award at special flag-raising ceremonies at each of Edmond’s three Post Offices.
Officials of the Postal Service’s Oklahoma District and Southwest Area Headquarters (Dallas, TX) will be joined by OSHA representatives, who will present VPP Star Worksite flags and certificates acknowledging the accomplishments of Edmond employees in maintaining a safe worksite. The Main Post Office, Centennial Station and Coffee Creek Station earned the prestigious award, the first offices to earn this impressive distinction within the Postal Service’s Oklahoma District, which includes all but the panhandle of Oklahoma. Edmond is also the first city in the nation to have all of its postal stations achieve this distinction at the same time.
To achieve Star status, a team of management, employee and union personnel work together to exceed OSHA’s voluntary safety and health standards and pass a rigorous OSHA onsite evaluation.
Edmond Postmaster Larry Chandler credits his employees for the program’s success. “Attaining VPP status requires the buy-in and involvement from every Edmond employee,” said Chandler, “and this is truly something that we earned together.”
“I’m proud to say that Edmond postal employees are committed to a safe working environment,” Chandler added.
