Perrysburg Post Office Hosting Passport Fair

Event to be held at Way Library

Significant changes in the requirements for passports for United States citizens have occurred in the past few years. The U.S. now requires passports to and from many countries that historically have been exempt from this requirement for U.S. citizens. Effective January 2007, U.S. citizens traveling by air between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda were required to present a valid U.S. passport. New regulations impacting travel between the U.S. and Canada became effective January 31, 2008.

As a service to local customers traveling abroad, the Post Office will host a Passport Fair on Tuesday, July 15 at the Way Library, 101 East Indiana Avenue, from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m.

To obtain a passport for the first time, applicants must apply in person with two photographs, proof of U.S. citizenship and a valid form of photo identification such as a driver’s license. You’ll also need to apply in person:  if your expired U.S. passport is not in your possession; if your previous U.S. passport has expired and was issued more than 15 years ago; if your previous U.S. passport was issued when you were under age 16; or if your currently valid U.S. passport has been lost or stolen.

Beginning February 1, 2008, U.S. citizens now have the option of applying in advance for a new, limited-use, wallet-sized passport card. The Department of State expects these cards will be available and mailed to applicants sometime this spring. When available, it will only be valid for land and sea travel between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean region, and Bermuda.

Passport fees:
Adults [age 16 and older] Passport book application fee $75 + the execution fee $25 = $100
Adults [age 16 and older] Passport card application fee $20 + the execution fee $25 = $ 45
Child [age 15 and younger] Passport book application fee $60 + the execution fee $25 = $ 85
Child [age 15 and younger] Passport card application fee $10 + the execution fee $25 = $ 35

The Passport Cards are not scheduled to go into production until late June.

Passport photos will also be available for a $15 charge.

NOTE: The Department of State (DoS) has announced that passport processing currently takes less than 4 weeks. Travelers who need them sooner should expedite their requests. Check the DoS web site, address listed below, for specifics regarding timelines.

More information is available on the Postal Service website at www.usps.com/passport or the Department of State website at http://travel.state.gov/index.html. To save additional time, customers can download the passport application from the Department of State web site and already have it completed when they attend the Passport Fair.
