Several Area Post Offices to Stay Open Late on Tax Day
to Accommodate Last Minute Filers

According to the IRS, about 58 percent of tax returns last year were filed via the Internet. However, the Postal Service still expects to see people across northern Ohio rushing to the Post Office at the final hour to have their tax returns postmarked and mailed before the April 15 midnight deadline.

To accommodate last minute filers, several Northern Ohio District Post Offices will be open late on the 15th. Unless otherwise noted, the following Post Offices will be open until midnight on tax day.

Cleveland Area Post Offices:

Cleveland Main Post Office - 2400 Orange Ave, Cleveland

  • At 4:00 p.m. the traffic flow in the customer parking will be reversed to accommodate the anticipated increased customer volume. Curbside collectors will be working until midnight to accept prepared returns with postage already affixed.

East Side

Beachwood Post Office - 3695 Green Road, Beachwood (Open until 8:00 p.m.)

West Side

Lakewood Post Office - 1475 Warren Road, Lakewood (Open until 8:00 p.m.)

Midpark Post Office - 13301 Smith Road, Middleburg Heights (Open until 8:00 p.m.)

Other Area Post Offices:

Elyria Post Office - 345 East Bridge Street, Elyria (Open until 10:00 p.m.)

Lorain Post Office - 439 West 4th Street, Lorain

Akron Main Post Office - 675 Wolf Ledges Parkway, Akron

Canton Main Post Office - 2650 Cleveland Ave. N.W., Canton

Mansfield Post Office - 200 North Diamond St., Mansfield

Mentor Post Office - 8600 Tyler Blvd., Mentor

Steubenville Post Office - 150 North 3rd St., Steubenville

Mineral City Post Office - 8618 N. High Street, Mineral City (Open until 9:00 pm)

Youngstown Main Post Office - 99 South Walnut, Youngstown

Customers who mail their returns during the day on the 15th should check with their local Post Office or read the posted times on the collection box to make sure that their tax return will be collected and postmarked before the deadline. Also, any letters or packages weighing 13 ounces or more must be brought to a Post Office and personally handed to a postal employee.

The Internal Revenue Service will accept returns sent via Express Mail, Certified Mail, or Delivery Confirmation for those customers who would like verification that their return was delivered. The IRS accepts the postmark on the envelope as proof of timely filing.

It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
