Port Chester Post Office Hosts Cinco De Mayo Celebration

Port Chester, NY — Port Chester Post Office, 245 Westchester Ave. is hosting a Cinco De Mayo Celebration on Monday, May 5, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. There will be costumes, entertainment, refreshments and a student stamp design contest.

The Postal Service’s Business Development Team will assist businesses on how to develop and grow using USPS products and services. A bilingual Postal Inspector will be on hand to address customers and educate them on identity theft and how to protect themselves on mail fraud. In addition, the Postal Service’s Sure Money Program Coordinator will inform customers on the advantages and benefits of wiring monies through the USPS.

Cinco de Mayo is a date of great importance for the Mexican and Latin communities. It marks the victory of the Mexican Army over the French at the Battle of Puebla. Although the Mexican army was eventually defeated, the "Batalla de Puebla" came to represent a symbol of Mexican unity and patriotism. With this victory, Mexico demonstrated to the world that Mexico and all of Latin America were willing to defend themselves from any foreign intervention.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
