This year’s program is a blend of music, dance, readings and re-enactment performances from Rochester area students, religious and community participants and members of the Postal Service Black History Committee.

Mary Quinn will also be presenting the US Postal Service 31st Black Heritage Commemorative Stamp featuring Charles Chesnutt, renowned educator, lawyer, columnist, lecturer, entrepreneur and author.

“Charles Chesnutt made a life-long journey out of improving his knowledge,” states Quinn. “He used his literary abilities to probe the color line that existed in turn-of the-century America. Chesnutt is a great inspiration to students of today. Through his writings, he inspires them to follow their dreams and pursue their destinies.”

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
