Post Offices Open, Mail Delivered on July 3rd
Many sites will close at noon
All Post Offices nationwide will be open Friday, July 3 although most will shorten retail lobby hours and close at noon.
Regular mail delivery for this day will be unaffected by the change. Access to post office boxes may be limited in those post offices where an early retail closing all customer activities.
Revised hours will be posted at each Post Office and commercial customers are asked to check with their Bulk Mail Acceptance Unit for July 3 hours of operation.
In addition, mail should be deposited into blue collection mailboxes by noon for early pick-up on this date.
Those offices that will remain open until 5 pm on Friday, July 3 will be limited to:
CAPITAL REGION:
- Schenectady Main Post Office (29 Jay Street)
- Albany Processing and Distribution Center, (30 Old Karner Road, Albany)
Stuyvesant Plaza (Stuyvesant Plaza Shopping Center, Albany) will stay open until 5 pm on July 3 and close for July 4. The Postal Station inside Colonie Center will close at noon on Friday July 3, close for the Independence holiday then resume its normal Sunday hours.
SOUTHERN TIER:
- Binghamton P.O. (120 Chenango Street, Binghamton)
NORTHERN NEW YORK:
- Plattsburgh P.O (10 Miller Street, Plattsburgh
- Watertown P.O. (232 Commerce Park Drive, Watertown)
- Glens Falls P.O. (16 Hudson Avenue, Glens Falls)
CENTRAL NEW YORK:
- Utica P.O. (100 Pitcher St. Utica)
- Syracuse Processing and Distribution Center, (5640 East Taft Road, Syracuse
The Postal Station inside Syracuse’s Carousel Center will be open regular hours Friday and Sunday and until 5:30 pm on Saturday, July 4.
Except for Express Mail, there will be no delivery of mail on July 4. Post Offices will reopen and regular mail delivery will resume on Monday, July 6.

Editor’s note: Some in your audience may be concerned for the delivery of regular Social Security checks delivered on the third of each month. According to the 2009 schedule of checks to be issued — http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/calendar.htm — checks are due for delivery on the 2nd of July.
