New citizens, new opportunities

Postal Service provides passport services at naturalization ceremonies

LAS VEGAS, NV —Originally hailing from dozens of countries from around the world, hundreds of people are expected to raise their right hands and take the oath of U.S. Citizenship at naturalization ceremonies sponsored by the U.S. Government Citizenship and Immigration Services.

The U.S. Postal Service will also be on hand to provide passport services to these new citizens. Local postal employees will provide all the necessary assistance, including applications, photos and mailing services.

Ceremonies will be held at the U.S. District, Court, 333 Las Vegas Blvd. They are scheduled four times a day on the following dates:

Aug. 8, 22; Sept. 5, 12, 26; Oct. 3, 10, 24; Nov. 7, 14; Dec. 5, 12

“After the induction ceremony, the first thing many new citizens want to do is to apply for a passport,” said Las Vegas Retail Manager Tony Sequeira. “A passport allows them travel to other countries as U.S. citizens.”

“This one-stop opportunity helps these new citizens with an important and necessary step for their future,” said Sequeira. “And we’re honored to be part of that process.”

Passport availability is open to any citizen who meets the following requirements:

Proof of U.S. Citizenship: (must submit one of these)

  • BIRTH CERTIFICATE ISSUED BY THE STATE
  • NATURALIZATION CERTIFICATE
  • PREVIOUS U. S. PASSPORT

Photo identification: (must submit one of these in addition to proof of U.S. Citizenship)

  • DRIVER’S LICENSE
  • STATE I.D OR FEDERAL-GOVERNMENT I.D

Fees:Regular service, passport will be received in 3-4 weeks, $115.
Expedited service, passport will be received in 2-3 weeks, $206.35
The above totals include all handling fees, mailing costs and photos.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
