Nevada Postal Customers Receive Best Delivery Service in Nation

National service sets new highs

LAS VEGAS, NV — Postal Service customers in the Nevada-Sierra District, which covers the state of Nevada and the Lake Tahoe Region of California, received some of the best overnight mail delivery service in the nation for the second quarter of fiscal year 2008. With 98 percent of First-Class Mail delivered on-time, Nevada-Sierra tied five other postal districts for the nation’s best delivery performance.

“To lead the nation in service is a real testament to the commitment level of our employees,” said Nevada-Sierra District Manager Shaun Mossman. “This measurement tells our customers that their mail service is of the highest quality.”

Mossman credited the achievement to the efficiency and dedication of postal employees.

“Our customers’ mail is important to them,” said Mossman. “They deserve superior service.”

The Postal Service’s Nevada-Sierra District employs more than 5,000 people, working in nearly 200 postal facilities, who process and deliver an average 6 million pieces of mail each day to more than 1.2 million addresses.

National on-time performance scores for the delivery of First-Class Mail were at all-time highs for all three of the categories the Postal Service tracks. National overnight performance was 96 percent on-time in the final quarter — the first time this level of service has been this high for four quarters in a row. National two-day and three-day performance also hit new record highs of 94 percent and 92 percent, respectively.

First-Class Mail performance, presented during the Postal Service Board of Governors meeting, is measured independently by IBM Global Business Services. The process measures First-Class Mail from the time it is deposited into a collection box or lobby mail chute until it is delivered to a home or business.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
