Trigo Fire Evacuation Closes Torreon Post Office Affects Delivery For Customers in Taijique

ALBUQUERQUE, NM — The town of Torreon, NM has been evacuated due to the Trigo Fire. The U.S. Postal Service has evacuated the Torreon Post Office, which services 230 PO boxes for the 87061 ZIP code area, and taken all of the mail to nearby Estancia. The Postal Service will facilitate mail delivery to the affected Torreon Post Office through the Estancia Post Office. Torreon postal customers may pick up their mail at the Estancia Post Office until the Torreon Post Office reopens.

The Torreon Post Office is not presently in danger of being burned; however, until service is restored to this postal facility, the outside and inside collection boxes will be taken out of service.

Additionally, the mail carrier that delivers mail to the Taijique area will not be able to get into the area due to road closures. This closure will affect approximately 60 deliveries.

The Postal Service will provide updates as additional information becomes available.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
