Arroyo Seco Post Office Seeks To Expand or Relocate

Community Meeting To Be Held Wednesday, February 20

ARROYO SECO, NM — The U.S. Postal Service today announced plans to expand or relocate the Arroyo Seco Post Office.

"We would like input from our community residents and will have several Postal Service representatives available at a community meeting at 6:30 p.m., on February 20, 2008, at meeting room in the main building at the Community Center located at the corner of NM 150 and El Salto Rd. in Arroyo Seco, NM to discuss the expansion or relocation process," said Arroyo Seco Postmaster Mary Martinez "We will consider all recommendations from the community and other comments received within 30 days after the meeting."

The current Post Office on NM 150 just northeast of the center of the community is no longer adequate to serve the needs of postal customers in our community, explained Martinez. She added that the Postal Service will consider its options in the following order: expand the existing Post Office, move to another building, or relocate to a newly constructed facility.

If expansion is not possible, the Postal Service will seek to lease or purchase an existing building or a suitable site to build a new Post Office for Arroyo Seco. The preferred area will be along either side of New Mexico Highway 150 and be within ½ mile of the existing MPO. The site size needed is approximately 1 acre, and the facility should contain at least 1024 square feet of usable area.

Postal Service officials met recently with Arroyo Seco community leaders to explore possibilities for the expanded Post Office operations.

It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
