SANTA FE POST OFFICE EXTENDS RETAIL & COLLECTION HOURS FOR CUSTOMERS ON "TAX DAY", APRIL 17, 2007
SANTA FE - According to the Internal Revenue Service, taxpayers across the nation will have until Tuesday, April 17, 2007, to file their 2006 federal tax returns. As a convenience to Santa Fe postal customers, both the Main Post Office (located at 120 South Federal Place) and the Coronado Station (located at 2071 South Pacheco) will extend their retail hours that day, operating from 8:00 AM until 7:00 PM. In addition to their regular collection schedule, a "courtesy" collection run will be made at those 2 offices, providing a "final" collection of mail deposited into those boxes at 12:00 Midnight mail. "To ensure postmarking by the IRS's midnight deadline, we urge taxpayers in Santa Fe to mail early, in advance of the IRS deadline, but for those last minute filers, we'll make sure your return is processed promptly, as long as you deposit your return in collection boxes at the Main Office or at our Coronado Station before midnight", said Postmaster Ruben Romero.
An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits 146 million homes and businesses, six days a week. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to cover its operating expenses. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $73 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
