Money Orders Make Great Last Minute Gifts

Give A Money Order With Enhanced Security Features

Newton, NJ — Thinking of giving a gift card this holiday season? Why not consider a U.S. Postal Service domestic or international postal money order?” suggests Newton Postmaster, Jack Bileci. “We’ve recently enhanced security measure on our money orders so you can be sure your gift will be guaranteed for its full value, over seas or stateside.”

The redesigned money orders, available in most Post Offices nationwide, offer several additional security measures, including a watermark and a new security thread. When the money order is held up to a light, repeating images of former Postmaster General Benjamin Franklin can be seen, making it easier for banks and Post Offices to detect counterfeits. A new holographic, multi-colored security thread also now weaves in and out of the paper to thwart scam artists attempting to produce fake money orders.

Domestic money orders are available at all Post Offices including here in Newton, in amounts up to $1,000, at a cost of a little more than a dollar. International money orders valued at up to $700 are available to 30 countries for only $3.85. A complete list of participating countries can be found at usps.com.

Money orders for that hard to buy for relative or friend make the perfect practical gift and unlike gift cards there is never an expiration date. For the gift giver there are no hidden fees, while the Merry money order recipient will have plenty of time to enjoy the holidays because there is no need to hurry to cash it in. Money orders never loose their value and they can be cashed in at any post office or bank.

Additional information on the new postal money orders can be found at usps.com.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
