Bridgewater resident celebrates 42 years of Postal Service to the community

Bridgewater, NJ — Bridgewater Letter Carrier, and Township resident, Elaine A. Lane, was recognized for 42 years of service to the United States Postal Service. At a 9:00 a.m. ceremony Lane was presented with a certificate of appreciation and pin marking over four decades of carrying the US mail. Bridgewater, Postmaster, Maryann Mancuso thanked Lane before her fellow Letter Carriers, co-workers and Central New Jersey postal officials, for Lane's 42 years of dedication to the job.

Lane took the postal exam and was hired on June 24, 1968, as a Letter Carrier in the Somerville Post Office. In a time when only one of two women in Somerville were Letter Carriers. Her first route included delivering Express Mail, and making Special Deliveries. In 1984 she became a resident of Bridgewater and transferred to Bridgewater. Once in Bridgewater, she worked on several routes before settling on Route-41, which has 312 deliveries covering the Bradley Gardens area of town.

The 68 year old Lane, who has no plans on retiring any time soon, said today “As long as I feel good, I will continue to work”. After celebrating with her co-workers and friends, Lane loaded up her truck and set out to deliver her route. Just another day in the life of this very happy and healthy postal worker.

Also recognized today were Bridgewater Letter Carriers, George Zvonchenko, with 31 years of service and Harry Keich, with 30 years of service. Combined, these three have over a century of delivery service in-the-bag, mail-bag that is.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
