Statement of Support for Guard and Reserves signed by U. S. Postal Service

LEBANON, NH— The New Hampshire-Vermont District Manager for Customer Service and Sales of the United States Postal Service, Deborah Essler, signed a statement of support for employee members of the National Guard and Reserve at a ceremony at the Lebanon Readiness Center.  The statement, created by Employers Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an agency within the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs, is an acknowledgement by employers that they will support their employee members of the National Guard and Reserves.

District Manager Essler said, “The Postal Service has a long standing relationship with ESGR and has been awarded their Pro Patria award.”  The recipients of this award demonstrate exceptional support for U.S. national defense by adopting personnel policies that make it easier for employees to serve as Guard members and reservists.  Three active members of the Guard and reserve who are employees of the Postal Service, Army National Guard Specialist Lori Corrigan, a clerk in the Littleton NH Post Office, Vermont Air National Guard Senior Airman, Crosby Sargeant a mail carrier in Rutland VT and Navy Reservist Petty Officer 1st Class Steve Sherman, a customer service supervisor in Rochester NH were at the signing ceremony.

Ernest Loomis, the NH State Chairman of the Committee for ESGR, said, “Their Five Star Statement of Support Program signed today is designed to encourage employer support for the Reserve Components and to demonstrate that support to employees and the public.”  “The Postal Service,” Loomis said, “qualifies for the 5 Star certificate.”

Said Loomis, “The USPS has signed an SOS, their Human Recourses policies have been reviewed. They lead the federal government in providing training to managers, Human Resources, and Labor Relations personnel and they have individuals who actively assist ESGR and promote their message.”

“As an organization,” Essler said, “—one which touches the lives of every American, one-quarter of whose workforce has served in the military—the Postal Service has a special obligation to acknowledge and do what we can to support those who support our way of life.  I appreciate the opportunity to represent the Postal Service and sign this statement of our continued support.”

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
