Background:
Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) was established to promote cooperation and understanding between reserve component members and their civil employers and to assist in the resolution of conflicts arising from an employee's military commitment.
The US Postal Service is one of the nation’s largest employers of military veterans; with a large number of employees in the active reserves, and has a long standing relationship with ESGR. The Postal Service was awarded the Pro Patria award from the ESGR committee for Washington, D.C. Recipients of the award demonstrate exceptional support for U.S. national defense by adopting personnel policies that make it easier for employees to serve as Guard members and reservists. Several postal employees have served as ESGR ombudsmen. Additionally, a postal attorney frequently conducts ombudsmen training for ESGR.
Deborah C. Essler, U. S. Postal Service District Manager for Sales and Service for New Hampshire and Vermont along with postal members of the National Guard and Reserves, Adjutants General of the New Hampshire and Vermont National Guard, officials from ESGR and state and local government will be on hand as we join thousands of other leading federal, state, local, and private employers in signing the Statement of Support.
