On December 26, 2007, legislation, introduced by U.S. Senator John E. Sununu at the request of the Hillsborough Board of Selectmen, to designate the Post Office building at 11 Central Street in Hillsborough NH as the “Officer Jeremy Todd Charron Post Office” was signed into law by the President. Senator Sununu will speak at the unveiling of the plaque.

Jeremy Todd Charron grew up in Hillsborough. He was a 1992 graduate of Hillsboro-Deering High School and was class president. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1992 to 1996. In 1996 Jeremy joined the Epsom Police Department.

On August 24, 1997 Officer Charron was responding to a report of a suspicious car in Webster Park, which contained two sleeping men. While talking with one of the men, the individual pulled a gun and shot Officer Charron. Although he was wearing a bullet-resistant vest, one of the bullets struck Officer Charron in an unprotected area and he died from his injuries. He was 24 years old.
