Omaha Post Office Asking for Customer Assistance in Making Winter Mail Deliveries

OMAHA, Neb. –  The Omaha Post Office is requesting postal customers’ assistance in keeping sidewalks and approaches to their curbside boxes clear of snow and ice.

It is important that all postal customers:

  • Clear ice/snow off sidewalks and steps to ensure a safe approach to mailbox.
  • Clear ice and snow in front of curbside mailboxes to allow the postal vehicle access to the mailbox.

“Mail delivery service may be delayed or curtailed whenever streets or walkways present hazardous conditions to our carriers and/or vehicles,” said Omaha Postmaster EvaJon Sperling.

The Postmaster is responsible for determining if proper delivery will occur during inclement weather.  If there is reasonable assurance that delivery will occur without an unnecessary risk to the safety of the carrier, then the Postal Service expects delivery to be made.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
