Traveling abroad? Jamestown Post Office hosts Passport Fair Tuesday, November 6

Passport

New passport laws that recently went into effect require all Americans and foreign nationals to have passports when traveling by air to or from Canada, Mexico, the Americas and Caribbean countries.

The Jamestown Post Office, 212 2nd St. SW, is hosting a Passport Fair Tuesday, Nov. 6, 9 a.m-3 p.m. The Postal Service will have additional staff to process passport applications. Customers who bring proper documentation as noted below can have their applications efficiently processed.

Bring the following items to help the process go smoothly:

  • Proper proof of American citizenship. This must be either: a certified birth certificate issued by the city, county or state; a previous U.S. passport; a certificate of citizenship; or a naturalization certificate. (Note: a hospital-issued birth certificate alone is not acceptable.)
  • Proof of identity. This must be either: a previous U.S. passport; a naturalization certificate; a certificate of citizenship; or a current valid driver's license, government ID or military photo ID.
  • To save time, you can download a passport application at www.usps.com/passport and complete your application beforehand.

Passport Fees: Age 16 and over: $67.00. Age 15 and under: $52.00 (Check or money order payable to U.S. Dept. of State).

Processing Fee: $30.00, Passport photo: $15.00 (Cash, credit card, check or money order payable to U.S. Postal Service).

Total Fees: Age 16 and over $112.00, Age 15 and under $97.00.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation, 146 million homes and businesses, six days a week. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars.
