Suzan Lynn Koester named new Rodanthe Postmaster

RODANTHE, NC — Suzan Lynn Koester was recently appointed new Postmaster of Rodanthe. Koester, originally from New Jersey and a postal employee for the past three years, replaces Brenda Leonard, who was appointed Postmaster, Powells Point, NC earlier this year.

“As the new Postmaster I will work hard to keep the identity and community intact for the towns I represent,” says Koester. “It’s important to know my customers and know what their needs are.”

Koester began her postal career in Lakewood, NJ, working from 1982-86 as a letter carrier before leaving the organization. She returned to the Postal Service in 2005 as a Rural Carrier Associate at Nags Head Post Office, before moving on to Kill Devil Hills the following year. Earlier this year she served as Officer-in-Charge in Rodanthe before being promoted to Postmaster. Now a resident of Kill Devil Hills for the past 20 years, she is engaged to be married and has three grown children and five grandchildren, with another stepson and three more grandchildren waiting in the wings after marriage.

At the Rodanthe Post Office, located at 25969 Highway 12, Koester is responsible for 8,200 pieces of mail delivered weekly to 616 Post Office Boxes, to customers from three towns: Rodanthe, Waves and Salvo. The Post Office is open weekdays 8 am – 12 noon and 1 – 4:15 pm, and on Saturdays from 10 am – 12 noon.

“This Post Office is a meeting place for the communities,” says Koester. ”I would like to maintain that ‘hometown’ feel and presence, while giving the best service I can possibly give.”

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
