Fletcher Residents Will Receive Letters From Postal Service Announcing Last Line Address And ZIP Code Change to Mills River

New Addresses Take Effect July 1

CHARLOTTE NC — The Postal Service will mail letters to Fletcher residents on May 31, informing them that the last line of their address will change from Fletcher NC 28732 to Mills River NC 28759, effective July 1, 2008. The change was made at the request of the Mills River municipal government and affects only residents residing in Mills River Township currently receiving mail service from the Fletcher Post Office.

Beginning July 1, Fletcher residents will be required to use Mills River NC 28759 as the last line of their address.  Residents should not use the new address until July 1. Residents should notify their business and individual correspondents of the change.

Mail addressed to residents using the Fletcher name and ZIP Code will continue to be delivered as addressed for one year. Residents using stationery with the current Fletcher name and ZIP will have up to one year to change the stationery to reflect the new address.

When residents receive notices for large parcels or mail to be picked up, their mail will be available for pick up at the Horseshoe Post Office at 3740 Brevard Road, instead of the Fletcher Post Office. This change will also begin on July 1.

Postal officials will work with State, County and City officials to ensure they are notified of the address change for utility bills, tax bills, and other mailed documents. To make the transition easier, Postal officials will also notify the electric company and phone companies.

The Postal Service will make the change in its address database to reflect the new last line address, effective July 1.  However, it may take some businesses and governmental agencies a few months to load the new changes in their addressing systems. The Postal Service does not anticipate any disruption in mail service during the transition.

The change from Fletcher to Mills River completes the requests to change Horse Shoe, Arden and Fletcher to the Mills River last line address and ZIP Code. In August 2006 Horse Shoe residents made the change, followed by Arden residents in July 2007.
