New Postmaster Selected for Kinston Post Office

CHARLOTTE, NC — Alvin D. Brantley, Jr. was promoted to Postmaster, Kinston, NC effective April 12, 2008. He replaced Rodney Deflumeri, who was selected last year as Manager, Post Office Operations, Mid-Carolinas District, in Charlotte, NC.

Brantley began his postal career as a city carrier in 1985. Since then, he served in a series of management positions including Mails and Delivery Supervisor in Raleigh and Goldsboro, and Manager, Customer Services in Goldsboro. Previously he served as Postmaster of La Grange and most recently as acting Postmaster of Kinston since January, 2007. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in Speech Communication.

At the Kinston Post Office, located at 208 E Caswell, including Plaza Station and Galaxy Contract Station, Brantley is responsible for 58 employees, covering 21 city carrier and 14 rural carrier routes, and delivering mail daily to over 21,000 delivery points. The Kinston Post Office, including the stations, holds 3800 Post Office Boxes and is open weekdays 8:30 a.m. 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. 12:00 p.m.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
