Post Offices accessible for last minute tax filers on April 15

NORTH CAROLINA — The U.S. Postal Service offers after-hours service for last minute tax filers on April 15 via 21 Automated Postal Centers (APC) throughout and near the Triad and Triangle areas of North Carolina. The APCs are self-service kiosks available 24 hours a day at selected offices, offering many postal services and products to customers using credit or debit cards.

Another location, Durham Main Post Office, 323 E. Chapel Hill Street, will accept tax returns and other mail until midnight. Three APC locations – Burlington, Cary and Raleigh-Westgate, will also offer this service.

The Postal Service will cancel every piece of First-Class Mail that is deposited correctly before the closing time of their local Post Offices to ensure every U.S. taxpayer’s return is postmarked with that all-important April 15 date. After closing time, if customers need their mail postmarked for April 15, they must purchase the postage from one of the Automated Postal Centers to get credit for the day’s postmark. Mail deposited after the closing time and without the postage from the Post Office or APC will not be credited with the postmark of April 15.
