Kinston Postal Carriers Earn Safety Awards

CHARLOTTE, NC — The Kinston Post Office recently honored three of its city letter carriers who joined the National Safety Council’s coveted Million Mile Club, which recognizes postal drivers who have driven one million miles without a preventable motor vehicle accident. Carriers drive an average of 30 miles daily, which in 30 years totals one million miles driven. A million miles is the equivalent of 42 trips around the earth.

Acting Sr. Manager of Post Office Operations Danny Jones, Acting Postmaster of Kinston, NC Alvin Brantley, and Safety Specialist Laura Brown presented the awards to Kinston letter carriers John Kilpatrick, Joe Dawson, and Sammy Brinson. Each recipient has more than 30 years of career service.

The letter carriers honored by Jones, Brantley, and Brown work at the Main Post Office in Kinston. “All three carriers are professional representatives of the Postal Service,” said Brantley. “They exemplify what any manager would want from an employee.”

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
