Franklin Post Office To Install Postmaster Friday

FRANKLIN, NC — Avis M. Davis will be officially installed as the Franklin Postmaster this Friday, February 15, 2008 at the Franklin Post Office, 250 Depot Street, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Davis, a Miami, FL native and postal employee for 21 years, became Postmaster, Franklin in April, 2007. She replaced Betty Rowland, who retired.

“I have been blessed by working in a wonderful community,” says Davis. “The employees are outstanding and have provided better and friendlier service. Everyone helped and encouraged me during my transition from Florida.”

Davis began her postal career in 1987 as a part-time clerk in North Florida District at the Jacksonville Plant. She also worked as a carrier and served as a supervisor in Mail Processing and Customer Services, and a specialist in logistics. She served as Postmaster in Havana, FL prior to her appointment in Franklin. She is a member of Destiny Church in Atlanta, GA. She has two children and two grandchildren.

At the Franklin Post Office, Davis is responsible for 49 employees, four city routes, and 19 rural routes. The Post Office holds 2600 Post Office boxes. The Post Office is open weekdays 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

The event at the Franklin Post Office is free and will include a Black History Celebration. Parking is available at the Post Office. Light refreshments will be served.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
