Zionville RCA frees customer from shed
ZIONVILLE, NC — When Zionville Rural Carrier Associate Teresa Isaacs went out on her route one day recently, little did she know that she would be responsible for delivering more than just mail that day; she would also be responsible for someone’s freedom.
Isaacs was on her auxiliary route serving a customer’s mailbox when she heard someone call out, “Hello?” She didn’t see anyone so she responded in kind: “Hello!” After a few more greetings exchanged, Isaacs saw a lady’s hand sticking out of a gap in a storage shed on the lady’s property. Apparently, the lady had gone to the shed to retrieve something when a breeze blew the door shut and locked on contact, trapping her inside.
Isaacs went over to the shed and unlocked the door to let the very grateful woman out. The woman revealed that she had a small child in the house alone at the time who was unaware his mother had gotten locked in the shed. “If this wonderful mail lady didn’t come around when she did, I doubt anyone else would have come by for many hours,” the woman said.
For her part, Isaacs was just happy to be in the right place at the right time. “It could have happened to anyone, so I’m glad I was there,” she said. According to Zionville Postmaster Erik Iddings, “Teresa is a living testament to the goodness of our employees in Zionville and throughout the Postal Service.”
