Ashanta Staten named new Kipling Postmaster
Sanford resident is first African-American to hold position

KIPLING, NC — Ashanta A. Staten has been appointed Postmaster of Kipling, effective immediately. Staten, a native of Northeastern Lee County and postal employee for nearly five years, becomes the first African-American to ever serve this position. She replaces Lori Townsend, who left the Postal Service.
“I am here to emphasize the availability of the Kipling facility,” says Staten, a Sanford resident. “We want the community to be fully aware of our presence, and to know that our service is superb.”
Staten began her postal career as a Rural Carrier Associate in June 2003 before working as a Sales and Service Associate in Pittsboro for the past 2.5 years. She obtained her Associate’s Degree in Business Administration from Central Carolina Community College and is the proud mother of two boys.
At the Kipling Post Office, located at 34 Neill Smith Road, Staten is responsible for over 180 Post Office Boxes (with 60 more to be added) and is open weekdays 8 am – 12 noon and 1 pm – 4:30 pm, and on Saturdays from 8 – 11:30 am.
“We carry an abundance of stamps in various denominations, making us the ideal place to get your stamps without having to wait in line,” says Staten. “Whether you need a book of 20 or several coils, or many other postal needs, we can accommodate you. Come in and give us an opportunity to serve you.”
