HENDERSONVILLE, NC — Hendersonville Post Office celebrated recently when City Carrier William Smith received the National Safety Council’s Million Mile Award, recognizing a career of more than 32 years with no accidents.
District Manager Dave Fields presented the award to Smith and thanked him for his dedication to safety. “This award recognizes not only more than 30 years of safety, it also represents more than 30 years of customer service. Each day, you have done what was necessary to serve your customers and return home safely to your wife and family.” Fields also thanked Smith’s wife, Susan for supporting William throughout his career.
Smith acknowledged that he could not have been successful without support from others. “I’m humbled by this award, and I’m just blessed to receive it,” said Smith. Postmaster Tom Harrison nominated Smith for the award, noting that Smith is an excellent carrier in every aspect. Smith said he’d heard about the Million Mile Award, but this was the first time he’d ever seen one in person. This one is his to keep.
HR Manager David Mills, Senior MPOO Maged Aziz and Safety Specialist Roger Church also participated in the award ceremony.
