Raleigh Post Office honors “million mile” carrier

RALEIGH — The U.S. Postal Service and North Ridge Post Office will honor its own, letter carrier Joseph Morek, for his recent induction into the National Safety Council’s coveted Million Mile Club, which recognizes drivers who have gone at least 30 years without a preventable motor vehicle accident. The short recognition ceremony will take place Thursday, October 22, at Raleigh Post Office’s North Ridge Station, 7800 Falls of Neuse Road, starting at 8 am.

The Million Mile Club is the highest honor given to a professional driver in the workplace by the National Safety Council, and according to the NSC, the status is to professional driving as reaching the peak of Mt. Everest is to the sport of climbing. Morek, a resident of Wake Forest, earns this unique recognition to highlight his 30 years of government service

Postmaster Howard Sample and Manager Rita Courman will be on hand to recognize Morek’s achievements in front of his peers Thursday. In Fiscal Year 2009 only 17 of 2000+ carriers in the Greensboro District achieved this prestigious honor; Morek is the third awarded this recognition in the new FY.
