ROCKY MOUNT, NC – The carrier annex in Rocky Mount kicked off what hopes to be an ambitious and promising year in safety and health when it honored the first two new members of the National Safety Council’s Million Mile Club for Fiscal Year 2010. City letter carriers Tim Balkcum and C. Wayne Calhoun, both residents of Rocky Mount, were recognized last week for their stellar efforts in driving 30 years each without getting into any preventable motor vehicle accidents.

This is the highest achievement and most prestigious award presented for professional drivers in America, and their superiors were nothing but praiseworthy of them both.

“These two men are more than deserving of these awards,” said Julius Jones, Acting Post Office Operations Manager, Area 1. “Not only are they models of safe driving, but they are also dependable, productive and of integrity and high character. I wish I could clone them for all of our Post Offices.”

Said Beverly Marriott, Rocky Mount OIC: “What can I say? They are a credit to the U.S. Postal Service.”
