Rocky Mount Post Office honors two Oct. 15
ROCKY MOUNT — The U.S. Postal Service and Rocky Mount Post Office will honor two of its own, city letter carriers Tim Balkcum and Wayne Calhoun, for their recent induction into the National Safety Council’s coveted Million Mile Club, which recognizes drivers who have gone at least 30 years without a preventable motor vehicle accident. The short recognition ceremony will take place Thursday, October 15, at Rocky Mount Carrier Annex, 2451 Postal Drive, at 9:30 am.
The Million Mile Club is the highest honor given to a professional driver in the workplace by the National Safety Council, and according to the NSC, the status is to professional driving as reaching the peak of Mt. Everest is to the sport of climbing. Balkcum and Calhoun, both local residents, earn this unique recognition to highlight their 30 years of government service
Postmaster Julius Jones and Manager, Post Office Operations Linda Strong will be on hand to recognize these letter carriers’ achievements in front of their peers Thursday. In Fiscal Year 2009 only 17 of 2000+ carriers in the Greensboro District achieved this prestigious honor; these are the first two awarded this recognition in the new FY.
