Post Office Open House highlighted by stamp dedication
Currituck celebrates 201st Anniversary honoring Anna Julia Cooper

CURRITUCK — Currituck Post Office celebrates its 201st Anniversary with an Open House for all customers on Wednesday, July 1, 10 am – 4 pm in its lobby at 133 Courthouse Road. The event will be highlighted by the dedication of the newest entry of the Black Heritage stamp series, the 44-cent commemorative postage stamp featuring Anna Julia Cooper, noted educator, scholar, and civil rights activist in the 19th and 20th centuries. North Carolina native Cooper was a member of the inaugural class at St. Augustine’s (Raleigh) in 1868, later taught there and in D.C., and soon after became the first African-American woman to earn a Ph.D while in France. This exciting dedication event will be held at 11 am, and the stamp is now available in Post Offices nationwide and online at www.usps.com/shop. This event is free and open to the public, with light refreshments for all attendees. For more information, please call 252-232-3384.
