Many Post Offices Will Close Early on Christmas Eve

Noon set as day’s final mail collection – All Post Offices closed Christmas Day

St. Louis – Post offices throughout the Gateway District of the U.S. Postal Service, which covers metropolitan St. Louis, Central and Northeastern Missouri and Southern Illinois announced changes to its retail counter hours and mail collection pickup times during the Christmas Eve and New Years Eve holiday period.

The Gateway District includes the following 3-digit zip codes: 631, 633 (St. Louis Metropolitan area); 623, 634 (Hannibal and Quincy, IL area), 650-652 (Jefferson City and Columbia, MO area); 653 (Sedalia, MO area); 635 (Kirksville area); 620-622 (Granite City, East St. Louis, Belleville, IL area); 624 (Effingham, IL area); 628 (Centralia and Mt. Vernon, IL area); and 629 (Carbondale, IL area).

Many offices will close early on December 24.  All St. Louis City stations and branches will close at 1 p.m. while other locations will remain open until 3 p.m. including Missouri offices of Ballwin, Maryland Heights, O’Fallon, St. Charles and the postal stores located at the Galleria, Crestwood and South County malls.  Offices open until 3 p.m. in Illinois include Belleville, Centralia, and Fairview Heights.

Customers are advised to check their local post office for holiday hours of operation.

Collections will be picked up early on Christmas Eve too. Although most outside collections will be made at noon customers are advised to check with their local post office for collection times.

Automated Postal Centers (APC) offer customers convenient access to postal products and services and the postal website: usps.com provides quick, easy, and convenient access 24-hours a day, seven days a week.

Retail and mail delivery operations will resume on Friday, December 26.
