Kansas City, KS Mail Processing Operations Shifting to Kansas City, MO

Kansas City, Mo.— In a continuing effort to improve productivity and increase efficiency, the Postal Service will move mail processing and distribution operations from its Kansas City, Kansas Processing & Distribution Facility (P&DF) to the Kansas City, Missouri Processing & Distribution Center (P&DC). The transition is expected to be completed by March 2009.

Postal officials said local service will not be affected by the move. Some affected career employees may be reassigned to the Kansas City, MO P&DC or to other vacant positions at nearby postal facilities.

Mark Martinez, manager of the Postal Service’s Mid-America District said, “The Kansas City, KS P&DF has been experiencing a shift in mail volume, while the Kansas City, MO P&DC has underutilized capacity.” The Mid-America District covers western, central, southwestern, and southeastern Missouri, and the eastern-most portion of Kansas.

“This consolidation will help keep mail processing costs down by using available capacity at the Kansas City, MO plant, and will contribute toward the Postal Service’s goal of increasing efficiency and improving productivity,” said Martinez. “The move makes sense. I am confident the transition will be smooth and transparent to our customers because of our excellent employees in this postal district,” Martinez added.

Large volume business mailers will be able to drop off mail at the Civic Center Post Office Branch Business Mail Entry Unit, located at 550 Nebraska Ave., in Kansas City, KS. Mailers who prepare destination entry rate or “discounted” mailings from the 661 ZIP Code area will deliver drop shipments to the Kansas City, MO P&DC, located at 1700 Cleveland Ave., 64121.
