Ninety-Nine Post Offices Host Passport Fairs

Saturday Hours offer Convenience for Working Customers and Families

St. Louis—Before you head to Mexico, the Caribbean or Europe, head to the Post Office. You and your family will need a passport.

Ninety-nine Post Offices across Central and Northeastern Missouri and Southern Illinois are hosting passport fairs on Saturday, November 8, during the hours retail lobbies are open to accommodate working customers, elementary, high school and college students, and customers who find it more convenient to visit the Post Office on Saturday.

“Passport applicants must apply in person so many customers, especially families with children, appreciate the convenience of Saturday hours,” said Loretta Tolliver, Manager Customer Relations for the Gateway District of the U.S. Postal Service. “With just one visit to the Post Office, the passport application process can be completed.”

Applicants must provide an Application for Passport” Form DS-11. To save some time, the form may be downloaded from the USPS website, www.usps.com/passport for completion before you arrive at the post office. The form will also be available at the passport fair.

Applicants, including infants, must present a proof of U.S. citizenship: a previous U.S. passport or a certified birth certificate issued by a city, county or state, a Consular Report of Birth Abroad, a Certification of Birth, a Naturalization Certificate, or a Certificate of Citizenship. A picture ID is also required. Go online at http://travel.state.gov/passport for more information.

Passports applicants pay two fees at the time of application. Passport acceptance fees are paid directly to the USPS, while passport application fees are paid directly to the Department of State. Adults, 16 years and older, pay a $25 Postal Service® processing fee and a $75 Department of State application fee. The total cost is $100. Cash or checks are accepted. If payment is made by check, two checks are required.

Persons under 16 pay $25 to the U.S. Postal Service for a processing fee and $60 to the Department of State for the passport application fee. The total fee is $85. Passport photos will be taken on site for a $15 fee.

Tolliver recommends visiting the Post Office as early as possible to apply for your passport — at least 2 months or earlier before your departure — to avoid any extra costs involved in expediting your application.
