Postal Service Set to Launch New Contract Post Office Oct. 22

First State Community Bank will Host Ribbon-Cutting Event at 2 p.m.

Cape Girardeau, Mo. — U.S. Postal Service officials have announced the grand opening of a Contract Postal Unit (CPU) which will provide postal services to customers on the west side of town beginning October 22, at the First State Community Bank, located at 2527 William Street.

“We’re very pleased that First State Community Bank is teaming up with the Postal Service to offer our customers greater convenience,” said Robert Fleming, Cape Girardeau Postmaster.  Fleming will be joined at a 2 p.m. ribbon-cutting by bank President Henry “Butch” Holyfield, and Ritta Penrod, vice president of the bank.

Beginning October 22, the CPU is scheduled to be open between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday thru Friday.

The grand opening celebration will include a cookout by bank and USPS employees, who will offer free grilled hamburgers, hot dogs and soft drinks between 1 and 4 p.m.

It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
